LeAnn Rimes delivers the right kind of change
January 1st 2009 10:22
LeAnn Rimes was launched into the musical stratosphere back in 1996 when her debut album and single, both titled Blue debuted at No.3 on the Billboard Album Charts and peaked at No.10 on the singles charts respectively. What followed this debut was a roller coaster road of commercial success, publicised family issues and the maturity and growth of a fine young singer/songwriter and with a career spanning thirteen years, Rimes is now finally at the ripe old age of 26.
However, in 2008, LeAnn Rimes arguably reached the pinnacle of her career (so far) in the track, "What I Cannot Change". While radio has embraced it like a Dixie Chicks track in late 2003, one cannot ignore that Rimes has deliver he finest career moment. In an almost angelic manner, Rimes reflects upon the damage that we can thrust upon ourselves and the necessity to alter the things that are causing: "The pain is self-inflicting/I know it's not good for my health/But it's easier to please the world/That it is to please myself".
Vocally, lyrically and melodically, "What I Cannot Change" reflects everything that is great about Rimes' amazing vocal ability as well as the flaws in country radio.
