Reba McEntire - Love Revival? Oh, hell no!
March 27th 2008 12:30
So, as I was procrastinating yesterday, I logged on to CMT.com and consequently discovered that Reba McEntire's latest compilation, "Love Revival", a record that was solely developed for Valentine's Day (aka Single Awareness Day), was recently certified gold for shipments of 500,000 units.
Two things sprung to mind after reading that little piece of news...the first being that's it's a little disturbing that a token faux holiday record can sell that well. The second being the realization that Reba McEntire, after nearly three decades on the radar of Music City, can still move records as well as any other young talent emerging from the Music Row conveyor belt, but few can tell a story like Reba.
Sadly, as I scan my iTunes, I am realizing that I have eighteen different Reba albums, ranging from "Duets" to my own personal favorite, "For My Broken Heart". Even scarier? I have barely scratched the surface in her back catalog. So, while Dolly Parton may be singing 'better get to living', in this case, I better get to buying. My eventual goal is to actually own the entire Reba McEntire album catalog...and trust me, that is a feat in itself. Oh, and yes, I plan on getting the much desired gem, "Feel The Fire" and even her self titled 1977 debut, "Reba McEntire".
The moral of the story isn't the fact that I am obsessed with Mrs Narvel Blackstock, it's that no matter how many different records I acquire and how many times I listen to these - I can't get past Reba's voice, her ability to tell a story and her seemingly effortless ability to make me feel like I'm at home whenever I listen to her music.
So, I guess I really owe Reba a thank you and she owes my parents an explanation for my scary credit card bill.
A revival? Her career was never goin' dead.
