Reba moving into Valory.
November 13th 2008 05:33
It was recently announced that Reba McEntire was moving from MCA (also known as her record label for a quarter of a century) to the sister label of Big Machine Records, Valory. This rumour had been floating around for a number of months but nothing had ever been confirmed. Honestly, I think this is a smart and beneficial move for all parties. McEntire gains even tighter control of her career, Scott Borchetta and Big Machine/Valory have another big name on their roster and one of the major players in MCA is forced to re-think it’s strategy. Also, notably, McEntire is comfortably separated from Taylor Swift in the label structure, thus no sharing of the spotlight for either of those girls (okay, bad joke).
At the same time, Trisha Yearwood moved to Big Machine but a few years ago and while Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love was one of the three strongest records of the year; it received minimal push from the label. Here’s hoping that with the presence of McEntire, Swift and Brooks that the smaller artists on the label, including Danielle Peck have something more to play with.
McEntire’s first single on Valory is set to drop right after the end of winter.
