Review: Keith Urban - Sweet Thing
November 5th 2008 11:13
Keith Urban is back (not that he ever really left), with "Sweet Thing", the lead single from his upcoming and currently untitled album. The track is co-produced by Dann Huff and co-written by Monty Powell ("Days Go By", "Tonight I Wanna Cry") which should strike a familiar bell up listening.
Once again, Urban is playing with the up tempos that drew many to his sound initially. "Sweet Thing" is kindly towing the line between country and pop. However, the melody for me is so attainable that I might be willing to let that go.
The track harks back to the days of Be Here in terms of sound, energy and lyrical content, however, that is not necessarily an entirely bad thing. While "Sweet Thing" is not ground breaking by any means, it once again proves Keith Urban is willing and able to deliver a guitar heavy up tempo ditty that can put a smile on the face of the listener. The counter action to that statement is the fact that this track might simply blend into Urban's like minded back catalog of tracks such as "Somebody Like You."
While I am tempted to highlight a back tracking in the style of "Sweet Thing", the truth is, whether it be 2008 or 2002, this type of track will always be a hot commodity.
