Sarah Buxton - Space
Sarah Buxton has an easily identifiable rasp in her vocals and style in her lyrics, both are qualities are made use of in her latest single, "Space".
Buxton posted the demo of this track on her MySpace a few months ago, and well, her fans took to it like flame to a paper. I'm admittedly suffering from demo-itis whereby I've listened to the demo track so many times that I am accustomed to the unpolished composition. However, with that said, Lyric Street is giving Buxton another shot at country radio (after her first couple of singles failed to makes waves and her debut album subsequently scrapped and replaced by a digital EP) and one can only hope that country radio will respond kindly.
While Space doesn't have the same melodical drawing power of "That Kind Of Day" or "Stupid Boy", the gentle acoustic introduction that slowly builds into the chorus where it is met with steel. My only qualm with this track is that the verses build into a chorus that might leave the listener disappointed or expecting more than what the song is prepared to offer them. However, Buxton's strong voice and simple (maybe a little too simple) lyric make for another solid delivery from Ms Buxton.
I don't see this one making major waves but I hope that I am damn wrong.
