That damn cowboy song.

I go through stages of music, and it's that time of year where I pull out the Dixie Chicks, lay back and enjoy the ride. In recent days, I have once again been taken aback by a song that moves me every time.
It lacks complexity, the lyrics are simple and lack originality ("I wanna be the only one/For miles and miles/Except for maybe you/And your simple smile), I see no cord change that comes as a surprise...but the song to me is perfection. What am I talking about? The Dixie Chicks' "Cowboy Take Me Away". A cut from their 1999 Fly album, "Cowboy Take Me Away" reflects all that feminism stands against in the form of surrendering to a cowboy, begging him to take her away. The track, written by Martie Maguire (with Marcus Hummon), was inspired by her sister Emily finally finding the love of her life, and a cowboy, in the form of her now ex husband, singer-songwriter Charlie Robison.
"Cowboy Take Me Away" is a mid tempo country gem. It is highlighted by the honest and simple sentiment of the lyric and the strong but smooth vocal stylings of Natalie Maines that are equally met with the fine instrumentals of Emily's banjo and Martie's violin.
I openly admit that it is music like this that gives me unrealistic expectations of life and love. But hey, when it's this simple and sincere, who cares?
